Essence Mitchell

RESIDENT IN COUNSELING

Therapist

Hello! My name is Essence Mitchell, and I am a Resident in Counseling who aims to provide clients with warmth and compassion. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Sociology and received a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Longwood University.

I have experience working with children, adolescence, young adults, and adults who have experienced anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, sexual assault, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, abuse, disordered eating, life transitions, and loneliness.

I approach therapy from the perspective that healing is possible, and everyone can work toward overcoming life's challenges. It is my goal to create a safe space and welcoming environment for clients to become the best version of themselves and grow as individuals.

I use a person-centered and trauma-focused approach by providing clients with a nonjudgmental setting. Throughout treatment, I use a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness. I will help my clients build on their strengths to develop the tools needed to reach their fullest potential.

I applaud you for taking this first step in your therapeutic journey. If you decide to take this next step with me, you will be met with empowerment, respect, empathy, and the space to truly come as you are. I look forward to working with you!
