Talisha Gorham, LPC

Therapist/Owner

Often healing comes from within and I provide the space and tools for you to develop your own self-awareness to begin to heal and move toward the future that you want and deserve. I am a graduate from Liberty University with a Masters degree in Professional Counseling and I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I have an extensive background in working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have been working in the mental health field for over 13 plus years. I have a passion for helping others as well as providing hope and a positive outlook toward a better future. I take an integrative approach while focusing on your strengths and needs. I will assist you in building the tools you need to be successful in overcoming life challenges and transitions. We will work together to explore and process your current feelings. Your well-being is my ultimate concern.

I believe that we all need to be heard and that no one should be silenced. Not everyone has a safe place to voice their feelings and I believe having a safe place to process feelings is a must. I believe that we should all be non judgmental no matter the circumstance(s) that one may be going through. Compassion for all is important and will help end the stigma of mental health in society. Trauma, childhood experiences, and/or life experiences as an adult can impact us but it does not define who we are or become! I believe changes can be made at any time if one is willing to work and seek help when needed. I was raised in a biracial family and believe that inclusion for all is very important. Please contact me if you are in need of help or just need a safe place to be heard.

Tara Johnson, LPC-R

Therapist

Hello! My name is Tara Johnson, LPC-Resident in Counseling, and I am a graduate of Walden University with my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling with a minor in Forensic Counseling.  In my educational and clinical journey, I have learned a variety of methods and techniques, but have found the Cognitive-Behavioral approach to be of great assistance during the therapeutic process. However, I am also aware that everyone is unique thereby requiring the addition of other therapies as warranted to my “mental health toolbox”. All theories incorporate an understanding of the need to change one’s approach to a situation even if the situation continues to exist.

Oftentimes, one’s reaction to a situation is more of a hindrance to change and growth than the situation itself; therefore, it is important to understand that the effort made while attending therapy will have a significant impact on the overall success of the therapeutic process.

Whether you have attended counseling before or if this is your first endeavor, you will find my style to be relaxed and conversational; so, ease your mind and take that first step to emotional wellness and mental stability. However, this is not to imply that counseling will  not be challenging at times! The change and growth we desire in our lives and relationships can be difficult to achieve as well as maintain unless we actively work together to establish goals and create a “virtual roadmap” to assist you in not only achieving but maintaining your desired goals.

The secret to health for both mind and body is neither to mourn the past nor worry about the future but live the present moment wisely and earnestly!

Jami Smithson, LPC-R

Therapist

I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Christian counseling as well as a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University.  I am currently a resident earning hours toward LPC and have experience working with a variety of populations which include but are not limited to addiction, parental coaching, adults, children, and adolescents suffering from emotional, mood, and behavioral disturbances, veterans of war, and adults dealing with anxiety/stress, burnout, depression, anger management, relationship/career/family issues, and bereavement.  I possess a unique understanding of human emotions along with in depth understanding of emotion regulation especially as it relates to addiction.  I recognize that we create from our past experiences to shape who we are and I take great interest in the use of creative techniques to assist those I work with in exploring their past as it relates to their present and in expressing themselves.

I have experience in private practice working with children, and adolescents suffering from emotional, mood, and behavioral disturbances, coaching parents, working with veterans, and adults dealing with anxiety/stress, burnout, depression, anger management, relationship/career/family issues, and bereavement. For two years I have had the privilege of serving those struggling with addiction at Williamsville Wellness. I served one year as a resident in counseling in the IOP and PHP programs and briefly as the interim clinical director before transferring to the Residential program where I spent the second year leading groups and individual therapy sessions.

I assist clients in liberating themselves from unhelpful patterns, painful past experiences, and negative internal dialogues that hold them back from leading a life that is meaningful, engaging, and enjoyable.  I am passionate about emotion work, am client centered, and solution focused all the while providing a balance of psychoeducation and using an empathetic approach, personalized tools, and techniques. My collaborative style enables the client to feel truly understood and empowered to become their own vehicle of change. Finding the right therapist can be hard and scary for some; I am committed to supporting the client throughout the therapeutic process.

Samantha Miller, LCSW

Hello! My name is Samantha Miller, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in social work from Mississippi State University in 2012 and my master’s degree in social work from Alabama A&M University in 2016. I have been practicing in the mental health field for three years. I specialize in individual therapy, family therapy, and play therapy. I have experience treating anxiety, depression, barriers in communication, self-esteem issues, anger management, parenting skills, and varying behavioral concerns with children/adolescents. I feel it is very important to meet individuals where they are when seeking treatment. I believe in “don’t make a plan about me without me”. Therefore, I will assist you with what you feel your needs/priorities are and would like assistance addressing. As a mental health professional, I enjoy empowering others to be their best version of themselves. It is my hope that TOGETHER we can achieve your goals.
