RESIDENT IN COUNSELING

Hi there! I'm Lily, a Resident in Counseling with a Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, I hold a B.A. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Randolph-Macon College, where I also minored in psychology and biology. I work mainly with adults aged 18 and up, and have experience working with a variety of difficulties, including: stress; anxiety; depression; life transitions; interpersonal challenges; women's issues; OCD, and ADHD.

My academic background reflects my deep passion for understanding others--for understanding human nature, really--and I try my best to make my clients feel understood, as well as seen, heard, and supported. But just as importantly, I care about helping clients understand themselves. When we begin to learn how our brains and bodies respond to stress, emotion, and past experiences, we start to see that there's always a reason behind the things we think, feel, and do. We realize that our struggles aren't random or signs of weakness--they're adaptive responses shaped by our biology, environment, and life experiences. This kind of insight can be powerful--it replaces judgement with curiousity, shame with compassion, and despair with hope. Suddenly, we come to find that our struggles don't make us broken; they make us human.

Our internal reactions are signals that something needs attention--just as we wouldn't ignore a fever or a broken bone, we shouldn't ignore emotional pain either. I help clients address their emotions not only through neuroeducation, but also by exploring the more nuanced emotional and relational aspects of their experience, because I know that our emotions can't be fully understood through research alone. That's why I use a blend of evidence-based, and warm, human-centered approaches, including: CBT; DBT; CFT; MBCT, and Feminist Therapy. This allows me to meet clients where they are, offering scientifically-grounded tools while also creating space for deep insight, self-exploration, and meaningful connection.

My goal as a counselor is to offer empathetic, scientifically-informed care in a safe, culturally-sensitive, and non-judgmental space. I believe every client has the right to understand what's happening in the counseling process and why, and I'm here to help provide that clarity. Ultimately, I see therapy as a journey led by the client--uncovering the "why's" and "how's" of their mental health while I offer guidance and support along the way. Together, we'll move at your own pace,  building the self-awareness needed for growth and healing.
