THERAPEUTIC COUNSELING & CONSULTING
Madeline Cason
Clinical Mental Health Intern - Student
Intern
Hi everyone! My name is Madeline Cason, but I go by Maddie. I graduated from James Madison University (JMU) in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and double minors in General Business and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies from the JMU Honors College. I am currently at Longwood University seeking my Master of Science in Counselor Education with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling. Upon completion of my master’s degree in May 2026, I plan to pursue LPC licensure.
While I am currently a practicum student, I have gained valuable, counseling-related experience from working as a program assistant in JMU’s Counseling Center, as well as working as an undergraduate intern at Adagio House, a nonprofit counseling organization in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
As a counselor-in-training, I am passionate about integrating different therapeutic approaches, recognizing that counseling is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach. I believe there are strengths and limitations with all approaches to counseling, but I am particularly drawn to combining person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and solution-focused interventions. Regardless of specific therapeutic interventions, I strongly believe in a strengths-based, culturally-competent, and trauma-informed approach with all clients. My main goal is to create a comfortable and safe space for you to process anything you need to. Each client is an expert on themselves, so I am dedicated to building a personalized, collaborative relationship with you. I look forward to being part of your growth journey.
