Hi everyone! My name is Madeline Cason, but I go by Maddie. I graduated from James Madison University (JMU) in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Double Minors in General Business and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies from the JMU Honors College. I am currently at Longwood University pursuing my Master of Science in Counselor Education with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling. Upon completion of my Master’s Degree in May 2026, I plan to pursue LPC licensure.
I am deeply committed to creating a welcoming, nonjudgmental space for individuals from all backgrounds and identities. Developing a trustworthy therapeutic relationship with each client is one of my highest priorities, as I believe great change can occur by having a foundation of connection and authenticity. I am especially drawn to supporting clients navigating mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship issues, and life transitions. I strongly value mental health advocacy, believing spreading awareness encourages individuals to feel empowered to seek proactive support.
As a counselor-in-training, I am passionate about integrating different therapeutic approaches, recognizing that counseling is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach. I believe there are strengths and limitations with all approaches to counseling, but I am particularly drawn to combining Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused interventions.
Regardless of specific therapeutic interventions, I strongly believe in a Strengths-Based, Culturally-Competent, and Trauma-Informed approach with all clients. My main goal is to create a comfortable and safe space for you to process anything you need to. Each client is an expert on themselves, and I am dedicated to building a personalized, collaborative relationship with you. I look forward to being part of your growth journey.
I am a proud member of the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA), President of Chi Sigma Iota (i.e., the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International) at Longwood University, and a 2025 VCA Michele Dowdy Emerging Leader.
