Get To Know Your Therapist

Talisha Gorham, LPC

Updated: Nov 22, 2022

Seeking therapy can be a daunting task. If it is your first time seeking therapy you may be confused and not know the steps to take. I often tell people when they are seeking therapy to look for a therapist that will be able to meet your needs and to find someone that you can build a rapport with. Some individuals will prefer a female over a male or vice versa; some individuals prefer someone that is the same ethnicity, someone that is older or younger, etc. With that being said this blog will allow you to get to know me, Talisha Gorham, prior to our first session.

Often healing comes from within and I provide the space and tools for you to develop your own self-awareness to begin to heal and move toward the future that you want and deserve. I am a graduate from Liberty University with a Masters degree in Professional Counseling and I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I have an extensive background in working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have been working in the mental health field for over 13 plus years. I have a passion for helping others as well as providing hope and a positive outlook toward a better future. I take an integrative approach while focusing on your strengths and needs. I will assist you in building the tools you need to be successful in overcoming life challenges and transitions. We will work together to explore and process your current feelings. Your well-being is my ultimate concern.

I believe that we all need to be heard and that no one should be silenced. Not everyone has a safe place to voice their feelings and I believe having a safe place to process feelings is a must. I believe that we should all be non judgmental no matter the circumstance(s) that one may be going through. Compassion for all is important and will help end the stigma of mental health in society. Trauma, childhood experiences, and/or life experiences as an adult can impact us but it does not define who we are or become! I believe changes can be made at any time if one is willing to work and seek help when needed. I was raised in a biracial family and believe that inclusion for all is very important. Please contact me if you are in need of help or just need a safe place to be heard.

Talisha, I almost said I am so proud of you as I looked over your site but that may lead someone to believe you were not always going to be this great. You were always destined to be great. You have always been someone who was going to be successful and I am happy to see all that you are doing and will continue to do in this field. Your heart and mind has always been in the right place and I am truly proud to say I know you and worked along side you in the past.

Thank you! That means a lot and is nice to hear. I did learn a lot from being at New Life and appreciate all the support and knowledge that you offered. :)
